Bringing Stonehouse together for the health and wellbeing of our community

This directory was put together by Support Stonehouse to provide useful information to residents about where they can find any support they might need. Support Stonehouse was formed by the Town Council in March 2020 and seeks to help with all of the physical, mental and emotional support that our community needs.

General Services

All Pulling Together

Based in Park Estate and provides practical help with housing, job search, budgeting, training and adult education.

Citizen’s Advice Bureau (CAB)

Provides individuals with free, independent, confidential & impartial advice about problems which they may face as well as information about debt & money, work, benefits, housing, family, law and courts.

Available at All Pulling Together, Thursday afternoons 1pm to 3pm

Please make an appointment by phoning the CAB office on 0808 800 0510.  

The office is open from 10am to 1.45pm on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday

Food

All Pulling Together

Free food supplies: Monday 0930-1130 and Thursday 1230-1430.

Local people collecting the food – be prepared to give Surname; 1st line of address; phone contact number and say how many adults and how many children in the household.

Food Bank Vouchers:  Available for collection Monday 9.30am to 12noon or Thursday 10am till 3pm. These can be obtained by contacting Jacky Edwards or Jacqui Turner at 01453 822705. The Food Bank will then phone the person to ask about any allergies and arrange delivery

Health Services

COVID 19 Test

Most people cannot get free COVID-19 tests. You can buy tests in shops but you cannot report the result to the NHS. 

You do not need to take a test or quarantine when you arrive in the UK. You should check travel advice for any country you are travelling to.

Drug and alcohol recovery service, appointments by phone and email.

Hope House

Provides sexual health care across the county. It is free and available to anyone who needs it

Maggie’s

Offers free practical, emotional & social support to people with cancer and their families and friends. Help is offered freely to anyone with any time of cancer

Gloucestershire Carers Hub

Provide advice, guidance and support for individuals caring for others. Practical support including a carers assessment, organising respite care, financial advice/support with benefits and planning for the future.

Support people who are experiencing moderate to severe mental ill health

Gloucestershire Self Harm Helpline

For people who self-harm, their families and carers. Telephone, webchat and text support 5pm-10pm daily.

Sunflowers Suicide Support

Raise awareness of suicide and its effects on families. Identify suicide risk factors and educate others about recognising them and how to respond. Provide advice and support to those bereaved by suicide.

Housing

P3

People from all walks of life and through a variety of circumstances can find themselves homeless. This service provides a safe place for adults who are homeless to live, and combines it with a personalised support package to tackle the root cause of their homelessness. We then work with people to source longer-term accommodation more suited to their needs. We want to ensure that once people have somewhere to live, they never become homeless again.

Based in Daniels industrial Estate at Lightpill, but services are available at APT every Thursday from 1000-1200, no appointment necessary.

Refurbish and distribute/sell donated good quality 2nd hand furniture

 

Safety

Gloucestershire Domestic Abuse Support Service (GDASS)

A service to reduce the level of domestic abuse and improve the safety of victims and their families. Contact should be made using the online referral form.

Stroud Beresford Group

Provides women refuge, provide community-based services and family support. 12-week courses and range of workshops and training courses.

Benefits & Money

GL Communities advisors are available on the following number 01452 505544 regarding payments arrears and debt advice.  The advice service runs from APT on Tuesdays 10am to Noon.  This service will be by appointment only.

Home Start Stroud & Gloucester

Offers support and friendship for families through difficult times like mental health and post-natal illness, bereavements, physical health difficulties, addiction, job loss or other life stresses.

Kids Stuff

For a small charge everything is available for young children, from clothing to cots and stair gates. The organisation is based at Brimscombe Port next door to the Furniture Bank.

The Door Youth Project

Operates Stonehouse Youth Club from The Pod in Oldends Lane. Provides support for young people and their families face-to-face, in the community and by phone or virtually.

Stonehouse Action4Youth

For young people from 12 to 18 who would like to do something to help improve their local community.

Kooth

For 11 to 18 year olds

An online support platform where young people can access free anonymous counselling, join friendly discussion boards, keep online journals, goal trackers, and read self-help articles with the op

Some of the achievements of the group so far include:

  • Creating the online Directory of services.
  • Creating a leaflet version of the Directory for residents with no online access.
  • Bringing The Long Table to Stonehouse.
  • Bringing the Freezers of Love project to Stonehouse
  • Supplying two bulk deliveries of toiletries to All Pulling Together.
  • Giving an age-appropriate book to every child in Stonehouse for Christmas 2020.
  • Coordinating the distribution of laptops to the Infant and Junior Schools.
  • Creating baby bags for expectant mothers in the town.
  • Setting up a Twitter account @SuppStonehouse

Support Stonehouse is hosted by Stonehouse Town Council but works closely with a range of local stakeholders such as All Pulling Together, Churches Together, The Long Table, The Door, Stroud District Council, Gloucestershire County Council and local businesses. One of its aims is to bring these groups together and facilitate collaboration.
